Description of Demon's Winter
Quietly released by SSI in 1986 and 1987 were 2 PC conversions of their classic Apple II RPGs: Demon's Winter and The Shard of Spring. Both games are solid 'conventional' RPGs (i.e. top-down view, lots of loot and monsters) which emphasizes level advancement and typical 'kill the big foozle' endgame.
In Demon's Winter, you must search the lands and seas for spells to trap the demon-god Malifon and undo his mystical curse. Entertaining and very well-written, if not revolutionary.

There is a way to a quick ending. Once you've obtained God runes, go through the door on the right with 2 ghosts talking to each other in the Chapel of the Ancients. Go right to the end and then cast Imprison. That will imprison Malifan and end the game. Think this was put inside the game by the programmers for testing.

This is an important number that won't make sense just yet, but it will become relevant the night of the 22nd. Please bear with me. (87.9)

In reply to - darkdaysx1 - There is a cheat, but you have to work for it. After you uncurse the three glyphs, park your ship just north of the dark chapel which is on the island south of the volcano. Step into the chapel and directly out again, and take one step north to get off the building icon. Hold the 'V' key down. This will not advance game time, but will be considered by the program as an input. With each V being inputed, the game calculates the chance of merchants greeting you. Going into and out of the dark chapel ensures the first merchants that greet you will be of the 'wealthy' kind; the only kind that the glitch works with. Go through the wealthy merchant's inventory. If it is standard merchandise, go back in and out of the chapel and repeat the process. You may have to do this for literally anywhere from 5 min. to an hour.. you have to be patient. What you are looking for is when a merchant offers you a weapon with multiple enchantments, such as a mace with Dorm. clumsiness and Dorm. poison. (If you enchant items at Brolor, you can add only one dormant enchantment per item, not two.) What you are looking for is a multiple enchanted item that the merchants will sell to you for only 2 gold! DO NOT 'VIEW MIND' THE MERCHANTS, if you have the view mind skill - the item may be a 'lie' and if it is, you won't be able to buy it. Buy the item until every slot in your party's inventory is full. Unless you are carrying a lot of junk with you, you should have between 30 -38 slots open. When the inventory is full, go to a town and you will find that the item will sell for anywhere from 17k - 30k each! (It depends on how many points the dormant powers are worth. If you look at the item in your inventory and its like 6pt clumsiness, 14 pt poison, it will be worth 17-18k. If its like 18pt clumsiness, 17pt poison, it could be worth over 30k each.) By the time you sell your near three dozen of them that you bought, your party will have anywhere from several hundred thousand gold to over a million. You can go to Brolor and give +10 enchantments to everyone's armor and weapons, plus additional enchantments. If you have enough left, you could 'donate' 80k - 100k per party member at a church which increases their experience points by that amount raising them to level 12 or 13. I just beat the game with a party of only one Paladin using this advantage. (He's a level 20 character!)

If you liked the first game Shard Of Spring, you'll LOVE this game and it's not as easy if you THINK you can defeat Malifon the demon god who has turned the world to ice and the water to blood. GREAT GAME!

This is the game I bought the most copies of, because my A500 ate the disks all the time. I might very well have bought this game 20 times before I managed to finish it. Of course I was a pretty young one back then. Replayed it about one year ago and took me about two days of non-consecutive playing to finish.
Still liked it, though.

Had a revolutionary (for the time) item crafting system with some good ideas that never really caught on in modern RPG tropes (like letting you pay more for a jeweled sword that gives a discount to enchant). The summoning and illusion schools are especially cool, and the skil system was ahead of its time.
